Blues Musician Gypsy Carns Paints Musical Pictures on His Latest Instrumental Release, ‘Tango Blues’
I’m sure that you’ve heard of a one man band before with Gypsy this was a one man album with him taking full reins on the project writing all of the songs along with playing all of the instruments found on it. The list of instruments played is impressive from normal ones like, guitars, dobros, tambourine and harmonica to some more unusual ones like, rain stick, washboard and rattlesnake tails. Gypsy also decided that instead of using a traditional drum kit for the percussion parts he went with a stompbox along with American Indian and African drums.
PROPHET AZAL - Elijah Returns
Vigorous and spirited, the music of Prophet Azal really rocks, being especially recommended for fans of “AC/DC”, “Judas Priest”, “Stryper”, American Hard Rock in general, and Classic Heavy Metal of the German school. The sonority is a blend of Hard Rock and Classic Heavy Metal, with sturdy rhythm guitars, compact bass and drums, and thunderous slide guitar and strong vocals by Gypsy, who assumes the persona of Azal.
Elijah Returns
“Elijah Returns” (the return of Elías, in its translation) is a conceptual disc that Daniel speaks of the revelations of the Prophet, its apocalyptic message, in the voice of Azal. The best form to describe the musical style of this disc, that is to say that is Hard Rock with I touch of Blues.
Prophet AZAL - Elijah Returns
The prophet pulls no punches in communicating the text's themes of judgment; the lyrics "my Son is coming in a timely state, to cleanse, kill and annihilate!" found in the opening cut "Who Can Stand Alone" pull you right out of the comfort zone before the record has even hit the one minute mark!
Elijah Returns
If you’re into melodic Hard Rock you really should try to lay your hands on this one. Fans of MSG, Giant and Joe Satriani (“Flying In A Blue Dream” era) will probably like this one. At some points even W.A.S.P. is what I am talking about but that’s probably because of some arrangements I’ve heard. You should allow the fact that on a regular base the words “Jesus”, “Heaven” And God” are used but to be honest I don’t care.
Elijah Returns
In a scene literally awash with power-progressive-epic-symphonic-death-doom-thrash-fill-in-whatever-blank-you-want metal bands I find the straightforward hard rock of Prophet AZAL a refreshing change of pace. I guess you could describe the group as bringing both something new and old musically from this standpoint. Elijah Returns, at the same time, proves you can teach an old dog some new tricks, albeit those on the heavier and harder rocking side of things!
AZAL (Gypsy Carns) - Elijah Returns
With every new release I get the honor of hearing from Gypsy Carns he continues to impress me with his musical talents but more important is his role as a musical prophet of God’s True Word.
Gypsy Carns - AZA
Since his first gospel blues album release 'Prayin Blues' in 1999, Gypsy Carns has produced a legacy of outstanding recordings. Recently awarded with the Blues Artist Of The Year award, this album is the next step for the master blues craftsman and illustrates what music of any type can do in the right hands.
Apocalyptic AwAreness Campaign
“We are living in the end times, I believe that. We must be aware that the opportunity to achieve eternal salvation has a deadline and we are rapidly approaching it.”, exclaims Gypsy.
Gyspy Carns A Holy Man
In contrast, there is also something about Gypsy that causes people to gravitate towards him, to listen to what he has to say, to be captured by those piercing eyes that you know hold worlds of wisdom. The type of wisdom that is acquired thru a hard-lived life transformed by the power of Jesus Christ.Wisdom that cannot be taught in a theological seminary, but can only be instilled by God into a human vessel to accomplish His purposes.Yes, there is something about Gypsy Carns that transcends his style of music, his two Grammy nominations for blues songwriting, his multiple nominations as Blues Musician of the Year by The Music City Blues Society, and the recognition from other artists and the industry as an accomplished, expert musician. That ‘something' is called the Anointing, and man, has God given him a double dose of it!
